Federal Education Minister and PML-Q member of National Assembly Sheikh Waqas Akram on Thursday joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Sheikh Waqas announced his decision at a joint press conference with Chief Minister Punjab and PML-N’s central leader Shahbaz Sharif after a one-on-one meeting with him.
Shahbaz Sharif welcomed Sheikh Waqas Akram into the party and announced to establish a public university in Jhang, the constituency of Akram.
Akram said that he basically had a Muslim Leagues’ mindset, adding that he would work for the prosperity of the country and the success of the PML-N. He said that he trusts on PML-N leadership.
Waqas Akram said that all Muslim leagis are getting together.
“I rule out the impression of being an opportunist, the fact is that my grievances have been addressed by the PML-N leadership and now I feel happy to be the part of this party,” said Waqas Akram who was a senior vice president of PML-Q and part of the outgoing federal cabinet as Minister of State for Labour and Manpower.
He is a member of the National Assembly from Jhang, elected two times from his constituency, NA-89 Jhang-IV. Previously, he was elected on PML- Q’s party ticket in 2008.
“There has been a lack of communication between me and the PML-N,” he said.
Shahbaz Sharif, on the occasion, hailed the PML-Q stalwart’s joining, claiming that Waqas Akram has no ‘taint’ of corruption. He said more people would soon join the party.
